Rachel London successfully defended her doctoral thesis entitled ”Analysis of Chemical Alternatives to Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS), and Contributions to an Effective PFAS Restriction”.
Her works sought to contribute to a more effective EU policy on PFAS. This was done by investigating and developing methods for the analysis of chemical alternatives (with a particular focus on Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis), providing case studies on PFAS alternatives, and providing an emission inventory for trifluoroacetic acid from different PFAS uses.
The defence was chaired by Prof. Dr. Denise Mitrano from D-USYS, and the defence committee consisted of Prof. Dr. Martin Scheringer (ETH, D-USYS), Dr. Juliane Glüge (ETH, D-USYS), Prof. Dr. Kathrin Fenner (University of Zürich), and Prof. Dr. Kristopher McNeill (ETH, D-USYS). After the defence, a British-Australian themed apéro was held in CHN, with games, and the awarding of the customary PhD hat.
